我們的我黨和我黨所領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的八路軍、新四軍，是革命的隊(duì)伍。我們這個(gè)隊(duì)伍完全是為著解放人民的，是徹底地為人民的利益工作的。張思德同志就是我們這個(gè)隊(duì)伍中的一個(gè)同志。

人總是要死的，但死的意義有不同。中國(guó)古時(shí)候有個(gè)文學(xué)家叫做司馬遷的說(shuō)過(guò)：“人固有一死，或重于泰山，或輕于鴻毛。”為人民利益而死，就比泰山還重；替法西斯賣(mài)力，替剝削人民和壓迫人民的人去死，就比鴻毛還輕。張思德同志是為人民利益而死的，他的死是比泰山還要重的。

因?yàn)槲覀兪菫槿嗣穹?wù)的，所以，我們?nèi)绻腥秉c(diǎn)，就不怕別人批評(píng)指出。不管是什么人，誰(shuí)向我們指出都行。只要你說(shuō)得對(duì)，我們就改正。你說(shuō)的辦法對(duì)人民有好處，我們就照你的辦。“精兵簡(jiǎn)政”這一條意見(jiàn)，就是黨外人士李鼎銘先生提出來(lái)的；他提得好，對(duì)人民有好處，我們就采用了。只要我們?yōu)槿嗣竦睦鎴?jiān)持好的，為人民的利益改正錯(cuò)的，我們這個(gè)隊(duì)伍就一定會(huì)興旺起來(lái)。

我們都是來(lái)自五湖四海，為了一個(gè)共同的革命目標(biāo)，走到一起來(lái)了。我們還要和全國(guó)大多數(shù)人民走這一條路。我們今天已經(jīng)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)著有九千一百萬(wàn)人口的根據(jù)地，但是還不夠，還要更大些，才能取得全民族的解放。我們的同志在困難的時(shí)候，要看到成績(jī)，要看到光明，要提高我們的勇氣。中國(guó)人民正在受難，我們有責(zé)任解救他們，我們要努力奮斗。要奮斗就會(huì)有犧牲，死人的事是經(jīng)常發(fā)生的。但是我們想到人民的利益，想到大多數(shù)人民的痛苦，我們?yōu)槿嗣穸溃褪撬赖闷渌２贿^(guò)，我們應(yīng)當(dāng)盡量地減少那些不必要的犧牲。我們的干部要關(guān)心每一個(gè)戰(zhàn)士，一切革命隊(duì)伍的人都要互相關(guān)心，互相愛(ài)護(hù)，互相幫助。

今后我們的隊(duì)伍里，不管死了誰(shuí)，不管是炊事員，是戰(zhàn)士，只要他是做過(guò)一些有益的工作的，我們都要給他送葬，開(kāi)追悼會(huì)。這要成為一個(gè)制度。這個(gè)方法也要介紹到老百姓那里去。村上的人死了，開(kāi)個(gè)追悼會(huì)。用這樣的方法，寄托我們的哀思，使整個(gè)人民團(tuán)結(jié)起來(lái)。

Serve the People

Our Communist Party and the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army led by the Party are revolutionary forces. Our team is entirely dedicated to liberating the people and working wholeheartedly for the interests of the people. Comrade Zhang Side is a member of our team.

People are destined to die, but the meaning of death differs. An ancient Chinese litterateur named Sima Qian once said, "All men are mortal, but their deaths can be heavier than Mount Tai or lighter than a swan's feather." To die for the interests of the people is heavier than Mount Tai; to die for fascists, for those who exploit and oppress the people, is lighter than a swan's feather. Comrade Zhang Side died for the interests of the people, and his death is heavier than Mount Tai.

Since we serve the people, we are not afraid of criticism and pointers from others if we have shortcomings. It doesn't matter who points them out to us. As long as you are right, we will correct ourselves. If your proposed solution benefits the people, we will adopt it. The suggestion of "streamlining the administration and reducing personnel" was put forward by Mr. Li Dingming, a non-Party member. He made a good suggestion that benefits the people, so we adopted it. As long as we uphold what is good for the people's interests and correct what is wrong for their interests, our team will surely prosper.

We all come from all corners of the country and have come together for a common revolutionary goal. We will also follow this path with the majority of the people in the country. Today, we already lead a base area with a population of ninety-one million, but it is not enough. We need it to be even larger to achieve the liberation of the entire nation. In times of difficulty, our comrades should see our achievements, see the light, and boost our courage. The Chinese people are suffering, and it is our responsibility to rescue them. We must strive and work hard. To strive means to sacrifice, and death is a common occurrence. However, when we think about the interests of the people and the pain of the majority, dying for the people is dying with a purpose. Nevertheless, we should try our best to reduce those unnecessary sacrifices. Our cadres should care for every soldier, and all members of the revolutionary team should care for, love, and help each other.

In the future, no matter who dies in our team, whether it is a cook or a soldier, as long as they have done some beneficial work, we will hold a funeral and a memorial meeting for them. This should become a system. This method should also be introduced to the common people. When someone in the village dies, a memorial meeting should be held. By using such methods, we can express our mourning and unite the entire people.
